Week 13 Period 51 Unit 8: WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU HAVE TODAY? Lesson 1 (1,2) Page 52 I. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + Pupils can ask and answer questions about what subjects the other speaker has for the current day. + Develop listening and speaking skill. + Know talking about school subjects in class, using sentence patterns: What subjects do you have today? I have ________. * Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: Activity 1, 3, 4 + Problem-solving competence: Activity 1, 4 + Self-studying and self-control competence: Activity 2, 3, 4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: Activity 4 *Language focus: - Vocabulary: Maths, Science, IT, Vietnamese, Art, Music - Sentence Pattern: Q: What subjects do you have today? A: I have _______________. - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: take part in limited activities such as practicing some easy words, doing some simple tasks, + Well-completed ss: help T demo something, join some difficult activities, do creative activities, II. MATERIALS - Teacher: PP lesson plan, books, pictures, flashcards, mp3 file. - Students: student book, notebook, pen, pencil III. METHOD Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... IV. TEACHING ACTIVITIES *Activity 1: Warm up - Ask the class the question: What do you like doing? - Have the class say the chant: Flying a little kite - Lead into the new lesson. *Activity 2: Look, listen and repeat a) Teaching vocabulary: Maths, Science, IT, Vietnamese, Art, Music *Procedure: -Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about school subjects, using: What subjects do you have today? I have+(subjects) - Point to each character in the picture & elicit his/ her name & the words to fill the gaps. - Write the whole sentences on the board. Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times - Repeat the procedure with the second picture. - Do choral & individual repetition. - Have Ss practice in pairs. Check as a class and correct pronunciation, if necessary. - Go around to help them - Call some pairs to report in front of the class - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation. * Activity 4 : Let’s talk Work in pairs. Ask your partners what subjects they have today. - Tell pupils that they are going to practise in pairs: one asks and the other answers questions about the actual subjects they have today, using What subjects do you have today? I have ... - Get pupils to work in pairs, one asking and the other giving the answer. - Invite a few pairs to role-play in front of the class - Give comments. Consolidation: - Content: Review vocabulary and form. + Vocabulary: swimming / cooking / collecting stamps / music room / watching TV. + Form: What do you like doing? I like - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others to try more. + Give feedback Homework: - Learn by heart the pattern. - Drill. *Activity 1: Warm up - Review vocabulary: Maths, Science, IT, Vietnamese, Art, Music, English, Vietnamese. - Call a few pairs to the front of the class to ask and answer the question What subjects do you have today? - Lead into the new lesson. *Activity 2: Listen and tick - Tell ss that they are going to listen to three dialogues about school subjects and tick the correct pictures. - Have them look at the pictures. Ask them what these subjects are called in English - Play the recording for ss to listen and tick. - Get ss to swap their answers before you check as a class. - Ask ss to give answers - Play the recording again for ss to listen and check - Give correct answers. - Give feedback: 1. b 2. a 3. c *Activity 3: Look and write - Tell pupils that they are going to fill the gaps of the sentences with different days of the week and the subjects they have. - Have them look at the pictures to identify the days of the week and the subjects they have on each day. - Ask pupils to do the task. - Get pupils to swap their answers. - Ask pupils to give answers and other pupils to give comments. - Give correct answers. - Give feedback: 1. When do you have.? Who is your . teacher? - Go around to help them - Call some pairs to report in front of the class Consolidation: - Content: Review vocabulary and form. + Form: When do you have.? I have it on. - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others to try more. + Give feedback Homelink: - Learn by heart the new words and pattern. - Do exercises in the workbook. - Ask ss to prepare Unit 8 - Lesson 2: 4,5,6 – P.55 - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to four dialogues about different PE timetables and number them in the order they hear. . - Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and do the task. - Play the recording again for Ss to listen and check their answer. - Get Ss to swap & check their answers before checking as a class. Ask: What can you hear in number 1/2/3/4? - Check understanding and give feedback: a3 , b4, c1, d2 *Activity 3: Look and write - Have Ss read the text in silence. - Tell pupils that they are going fill the gaps of the sentences relating to the school subjects. - Elicit the pictures / the words filling the gaps. - Allow Ss time to do the task. Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Get Ss to swap & check their answers before writing the correct answers on the board for Ss to copy down. - Check as a class. If there is enough time, call a few pairs to read aloud completed sentences. - Give feedback: 1. English 2. Wednesday 3. Wednesdays * Activity 4 : Let’s play - Tell pupils that they are going to do the puzzle by writing the names of the school subjects. - Do number 1 as an example: Science. - Go around offering help, if necessary. - Correct in front of class Key: 1. Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Pronounce the ending letter clusters ct in subject, and cts in subjects. - Listen and tick the correct boxes showing the words filling the gapped sentences. Then complete the sentences, and read them aloud. - Say the chant: What subjects do you have today? - Develop Ss listening & writing skills. * Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: Activity 1, 4 + Problem-solving competence: Activity 1, 2, 3 + Self-studying and self-control competence: Activity 2, 3, 4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: Activity 4 *Language focus: - Sound: “ct”, “cts” - Know how to practise some sounds - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the sounds “ct” and “cts” in the words “subject” and “subjects” and chant “What subjects do you have today?”. + Well-completed ss: can pronounce the sounds “ct” and “cts” in the words “subject” and “subjects” and chant “What subjects do you have today?” well. II. Materials: - Teacher: PP lesson plan, books, pictures, flashcards, mp3 file. - Students: student book, notebook, pen, pencil. III.
