Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade 4 Week 10 UNIT 7: WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING? Period 39 Lesson 1 (1, 2, 3) I. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + know vocabularies about hobby. + know how to ask answer about hobby + use the words and phrases in the topic “hobby” • Develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 4 + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act 3 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act 4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4 * Language focus: - Vocabulary: swimming, cooking, collecting stamps, watching TV - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can ask and answer about their friends’ hobbies + Well-completed ss: can answer more than one hobby. II. MATERIALS: - Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards, CD. - Students’: books, notebooks, crayons, pens, boards III. METHOD: - Communicative Language Teaching - Total Physical Response - Natural Approach - 3Ps - Work individually, pairwork, groupwork IV. TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Activity 1: Warm up HIDDEN PICTURE * Procedure: - explain the rule of the game. -Sts play in 2groups: boys and girls Activity 2: Presentation: - Content 1.Look, listen and repeat a.Teaching vocabulary: + swimming + cooking + collecting stamps + music room Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade 4 + Have Ss look at pictures. Ask them to identify the characters in the pictures. Ss repeat the sentences a few times. + Ss practice in pairs; call on some good pairs to perform in front of the class. (well- completed) + Ask Ss to practice with their partners. + Ask some pairs to present in the front of the class. Activity 4: Production -Content 3: Game: Beanbag circle + Explain the rule of the game. + Ask Ss to practice with their own activity they like to do. - Procedure: + Have Ss practice in groups & pairs. S1: What do you like doing? S2: I like collecting stamps. Consolidation: - Content: Review vocabulary and form. + Vocabulary: swimming / cooking / collecting stamps / music room / watching TV. + Form: What do you like doing? I like - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). + Praise some ss who are hard working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others to try more. + Give feedback Homework: - Learn by heart the pattern. - Drill. Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade 4 Activity 2: -Content 4 : Listen and tick + Ask Ss to look at the pictures ; eliciting the characters and what they are talking basing on the time. - Procedure: + Show how to do the task (listening and ticking on the correct pictures). + Elicit the names of the characters. + Play the recording and ask Ss to listen & point to the right picture. + Play the recording again for Ss to tick on the correct pictures. + Replay for Ss to check their answers. Activity 3: -Content 5: Look and write Procedure: + Show how to do the task: fill the gaps with activities + Give Ss a few seconds to read the text in silence. + Ask Ss to do the task individually. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: +ask and answer questions about someone’s hobbies -Develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 4 + Problem-solving competence: act 1, act 3 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, act 3, act 4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 4 *Language focus: - Vocabulary: hobby, riding a bike, playing badminton, flying a kite, taking photos - Structure: What’s your hobby? I like.. - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete Ss: can ask and answer about hobby + Well-completed Ss: can make short dialogue with four or more sentences II. MATERIALS: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD. -Students’: books, notebooks, crayons, pens, boards III. METHOD: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -Natural Approach -3Ps -Work individually, pairwork, groupwork III. TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Activity 1: Warm up - Singing “I like doing things” - Game: Whispering Activity 2: Presentation -Content 1.Look, listen and repeat Hi Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade 4 - Procedure: - Tell Ss that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about someone's hobbies, using What's your hobby? I like......... - Point to each character in the picture & elicit his/ her name & the words to fill the gaps. - Write the whole sentences on the board. Have Ss repeat the text in the bubbles a few times - Repeat the procedure with the second picture. - Do choral & individual repetition. - Have Ss practice in pairs. Check as a class and correct pronunciation, if necessary. - Go around to help them - Call some pairs to report in front of the class - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation. Activity 4: Production -Content 3: Let’s talk - Procedure: - Tell the class that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about someone's hobbies, using What do you like doing? and What's your hobby? I like - Get ss time to work in groups of four to ask each other’s like doing, using the structure. - Go around to help them - Call some pairs to report in front of the class. Consolidation: - Content: Review vocabulary and form. - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade 4 -Total Physical Response -Work individually, pairwork, groupwork III. TEACHING ACTIVITIES: Activity 1: Warm up - Review vocabulary: riding a bike, playing badminton, playing a kite, taking photos, watching TV, swimming, cooking, collecting stamps, playing chess, - Game: “Slap the board”, using the pattern: What do you like doing? / What’s your hooby? I like _________ - Lead into the new lesson. Activity 2: -Content 4 : Listen and number - Procedure: + Tell Ss that they are going to listen to four dialogues about hobbies and write number in the correct pictures. + Have Ss look at the pictures, then elicit the names and hobbies of the characters. Have Ss repeat them. + Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and do the task. + Play the recording again for Ss to listen and check their answer. + Get Ss to swap & check their answers before checking as a class. Lesson 3 (1, 2, 3) I. OBJECTIVES * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + Pronounce the initial letter clusters fl in flying, and pl in playing. + Listen and circle the correct letters showing the correct verb phrases filling the gapped sentences. Then say the completed sentences aloud. + Say the chant: Flying a little kite. + Develop Ss listening & writing skills. *Language focus: - Sound: “fl”, “pl” - Know how to practise some sounds - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the sounds “fl” and “pl” in the words “flying” and “playing” and chant “Flying a little kite”. + Well-completed ss: can pronounce the sounds “fl” and “pl” in the words “flying” and “playing” and chant “Flying a little kite” well. II. MATERIALS -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD. -Students’: books, notebooks, crayons, pens, boards III. METHODS - Audio Lingual Method - Total Physical Response
