OBJECTIVES Language By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - use the words open, close, stand up, sit down, go out, come in, speak, English, Vietnamese and please in relation to the topic “Classroom instructions”; - use , ____ please! to give instructions; - listen to and demonstrate understanding of simple communicative contexts in relation to the topic “Classroom instructions”; - understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts (pictures) focusing on classroom instructions. RESOURCES AND MATERIAL: - Student’s book Page 50 b. Input: – Context a: Class: Good morning, Ms Hoa. Ms Hoa: Hello, class. Sit down, please! – Context b: Ms Hoa: Open your books, please! c. Outcome: Pupils can understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts (pictures) focusing on classroom instructions. d. Procedure: Step 1: Have pupils look at Pictures a and b and identify the Whole class characters in the pictures. Step 2: Ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording for them Whole class to listen. Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat. Follow the same procedure with Picture b. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Whole class/ Step 3: Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat in Individual chorus sentence by sentence. work Step 4: Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to listen and Pair work repeat the sentences in the recording. Step 5: Draw their attention to the sentences Sit down, please! Individual and Open your books, please! Tell pupils that they are classroom work instructions. KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION Activity 2. Listen, point and say. 9 minutes a. Goal: To correctly say the words and use ________ , please! to give instructions b. Input: – Picture cues: a. a book opening b. a book closing c. a girl about to stand up d. a boy about to sit down – Speech bubble: _______, please! – Flashcards for “open your book”, close your book, stand up and sit down Audio script: a. open your book b. close your book c. stand up d. sit down d. Procedure: Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the picture. Ask questions to Whole class/ help them identify the context (see Input). Individual Step 2: Put pupils into pairs. Encourage them to give and respond work to instructions. Go around the classroom to offer support while Pair work they are acting out the instructions. Step 3: Invite some pairs of pupils to the front of the class to act Pair work out the instructions Preparation for the project: Individual Tell pupils about the project on page 55. Ask them to prepare it work/ Whole at home by writing classroom instructions on pieces of paper and class bring their work to the classroom at the project time to choose one instruction and read it to the classmates to act out. Fun corner and wrap-up: 5 minutes Option 1: Use sachmem.vn, have pupils look at the words in the picture Whole class and repeat after the recording. Option 2: Game: Sentence Puzzle Group work Divide the class into groups of four. Give each group a sentence that is broken/cut into pieces. Ask them to arrange them to make a complete sentence, then read it aloud. The group that makes it first will be the winner. Option 3: Wheel of Fortune - Divide the class into 2 teams. Group work - Each team chooses one umbrella to go to the question. - Have pupils unscramble the sentences. - Back to the menu for Wheel of Fortune. - The pupils can spin the wheel to get points if they answer correctly. - The team who gets more points is the winner. Goal: To listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which Ms Hoa gives pupils two instructions b. Input: Picture cues: 1a. a book opening 1b. a book closing 2a. a boy about to stand up 2b. a boy about to sit down Audio script: 1. Ms Hoa: Open your book, please! 2. Ms Hoa: Stand up, please! c. Outcome: Pupils can listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which Ms Hoa gives pupils two instructions. Key: 1. a 2. a d. Procedure: Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to Pictures 1a and 1b. Elicit Whole class the instruction used in each picture. Play the recording for Question 1. Step 2: Play the recording again for pupils to do the task. Whole class Play the recording a third time to give pupils another listening opportunity. Step 3: Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for Pictures 2a and 2b. Whole class Step 4: Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check Pair work answers together as a class. Write the correct answers on the board. Play the recording for pupils to check their answers again. Individual work Extension: If time allows, play the recording sentence by sentence for the class to listen and repeat in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. PRACTICE Activity 5. Look, complete and read. 9 minutes a. Goal: To complete the four target sentence patterns with the help of the picture cues b. Input: Four picture cues and four target sentences to complete c. Outcome: Pupils can complete the four target sentence patterns with the help of the picture cues.
