Week 11 Period 19 UNIT 6: ON THE FARM Lesson 1 I. Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + pronounce the sound of the letter X/x in isolation. + say the words box, fox and ox - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1, act 2 + Problem-solving competence: act 2 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 2 *Language focus: - Sound /x/ - Vocabulary: box, fox, ox - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the name of the letter X/x in the words “box, fox, ox” + Well-completed ss: can recognize the words in different situations when listening. II. Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards, CD. -Students’: books, crayons III. Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -Natural Approach -3Ps III. Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up - Bingo: (pick up 3 words) Sail sand sea rainbow river road quiz question square Activity 2: -Content 1.Listen and repeat a. Teaching the letter X/x - Procedure: + Have pupils point to the letter X/x (say “Point to the letter X.”). - Procedure: + Divide class into two groups + Ask Ss of two groups play game + Congratulate the winner Consolidation: - Content: Review the letter X/x and words (box, fox, ox) - Procedure: + Ask Ss to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). + Praise some Ss who are hard-working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others to try more. + Give feedback Homework: - Learn by heart the words: box, fox, ox + Have pupils look at the chant, saying Look at the chant, please! Draw pupils’ attention to the first verse and explain its meaning. Ask them to pay attention to the letter X/x and the words box, fox, ox. Check comprehension. + Play the recording of the first verse for pupils to listen and to get familiarized with the rhythm, saying Listen to the first verse, please! Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident, saying Listen again and repeat, please! + Follow the same procedure with the second and third verse. Correct pronunciation, if necessary + Play the recording all the way through. Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus, saying Listen, chant and clap your hands, please! Go around and offer help, if necessary. + Select some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands. The rest of the class may sing the chant and clap their hands along. If they sing the chant well, praise them, saying Great work! Activity 3: -Content 4: Listen and circle - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the pictures and check comprehension. Invite some pupils to point to the pictures in Question 1 and say the words in front of the class. Say Point to the pictures and say the words, please! E.g. 1a: a fox, 1b: an ox. + Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils to listen, and check comprehension + Follow the same procedure with the pictures in Question 2. Before playing the recording, say Are you ready? OK, now listen, please! Play the recording (several times if needed) for pupils to listen and circle the correct option. + Call a few pupils to the front of the class to point to the pictures and say what they have heard. If they said correct words, praise them, saying Well done! or Very good! Audio script: 1. I can see an ox. 2. I can see a fox. Answers: 1. b 2. a Activity 4: -Content 5: Look and write Week 12 Period 21 UNIT 6: ON THE FARM Lesson 3 I. Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + use “Is there a/an ____?” “Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.” to identify someone’s favourite things or animals. + sing a song with the structure “Is there a/an ____?” - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 6, act 7, act 8 + Problem-solving competence: act 7 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 7, act 8 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act 7 *Language focus: - Vocabulary: colouring a square, answering a question, doing a quiz - Strucrure: - Is there a/an ____? - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete Ss: can use the sentence structures “Is there a/an ____?” “Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.”. + Well-completed Ss: can use the sentence structures “Is there a/an ____?” “Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.”. Replaces some phrases they’ve studied II. Materials: -Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards,CD. -Students’: books, crayons III. Method: -Communicative Language Teaching -Total Physical Response -3Ps III. Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up - sing the chant on Page 27. , + Select some pupils to practise the structure they have been learning in front of the class. Praise them, saying That’s right! or Superb! if they performed well Activity 4: -Content 8: Let’s sing - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the lyrics to get familiarized with the first verse of the song. Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly. Check comprehension + Follow the same procedure with the second verse. Correct pronunciation and the melody of the song, if necessary. + Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song. Say Now listen to the whole song. + Let pupils practise singing the song. Help them sing the song sentence by sentence first. Then help them to sing the whole song. If there is time, let them sing the song several times until they feel confident + Select some groups to the front of the class to sing the song or ask some pupils to sing the song individually. The class may sing along and clap their hands. Praise them when they performed well, saying Fantastic! or Excellent! Consolidation: - Content: Review the structures and the song - Procedure: + ask students to answer the following questions: What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson? ( if the teacher can take from the lesson). + Praise some ss who are hard-working/ active/ good. as well as encourage others to try more. + Give feedback Homework: Review the structures and the song
