At home Lesson 1 – Period 1 Date: _______________ I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - pronounce the sound of the letter W/w in isolation. - say the words washing, water, Wendy, window. II. INPUT Language: - Sound /w/ - Vocabulary: washing, water, Wendy, window Resources/Material: - Student’s book p.68 - Teacher’s guide pp. 167-169 - Workbook p. 48 - Flashcards for Unit 16 - Poster for Unit 16 - Computer, projector III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat. – Point and say. – 213 recording again and repeat the word individually and in chorus, saying Listen again and repeat, please! Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the words Whole class washing, water and window. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task, if necessary. Step 5: Play the recording again and have them listen, Whole class point to the letter W/w, the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words until they feel confident. Correct the pronunciation, if necessary. Step 6: Call a few pupils to say the letter W/w and the Individual words washing, water, Wendy and window in work front of the class, saying Good job! when they performed well. Extension: Have pupils play Chinese whisper. Group work - Place pupils in 4 rows/groups. - Hand out picture/cards of water, washing, a window and Wendy to the first pupil in each row. - Have pupils in each row name the things/person/activity on each picture/card to the classmate behind them. 2. Point and say. 7 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture again. Ask them to Whole class describe it. Draw their attention to the letter W/w, the words washing, water, Wendy and window, if necessary. Step 2: Get them to point to the letter W/w and say it Individual aloud, saying Point to the letter W/w and say, work please! Step 3: Let them point to Wendy and say Wendy, saying Individual Point to Wendy, please. Remind them of the work sound of the letter W in the word Wendy. Then ask one pupil to point to Wendy and say the word 215 - Revise the main teaching point of the lesson: the Whole class sound of the letter w and the words water, washing, Wendy, window. Option 1: Individual Using, have pupils look at the work things/person/activity in the picture and repeat the words after the recording. Option 2: Individual Using Poster for Unit 16, ask pupils to point to the work picture and say the words. For better pupils, teacher may cover the words and ask them to point to the things/person/activity and say aloud the words. Option 3: Group work Have pupils play Listen and jump. Divide the class in groups and ask them to listen to words and jump up when they hear the sound /w/. TIẾNG ANH 1 217 Classroom Procedure Teaching and learning activities management Warm-up 5 minutes Option 1: Ask two or three pupils to look at the picture in Individual Lesson 1 (Student’s book or and say the sound of work the letter W/w and the words water, washing, Wendy and window. Option 2: Have pupils play Hot Seat again, using the words Whole class learnt in the previous lesson. Option 3: Get pupils to play What’s Missing Game, using the Whole class pictures and flashcards with the incomplete words _ater, _ashing, _endy and _indow. Pupils should guess the missing letter and say the words correctly. 3. Listen and chant. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the chant, saying Look at the Whole class chant, please! Draw pupils’ attention to the first verse and explain its meaning. Ask them to pay attention to the letter W/w, the word window, the words six, seven and the question How many windows? Check comprehension. Step 2: Play the recording of the first verse for pupils to Whole class listen and to get familiarized with the tune, saying Listen to the first verse, please! Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident. Step 3: Do the same procedure with the other verses. Group/ Draw pupils’ attention to the words eight, nine, Individual ten. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. work Step 4: Play the recording all the way through. Ask Individual pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually work/Whole 219 Step 1: Have pupils look at the letter W (upper case) and Whole class w (lower case). Remind them how to trace it. Step 2: Tell pupils to trace the letter W/w, saying Now use your pencil to trace the letter W/w. You can Individual demonstrate by air tracing or tracing the broken work line letter W/w. Then let pupils do the tracing. Go around and offer help, if necessary. Step 3: Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback. Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap Pair work their answers, saying Now work in pairs and check each other’s answer. Give pupils time to work. Go around and offer help, if necessary. Whole class Step 4: Have pupils look at the pictures and the unfinished words __endy, __ater, __ashing, __indow. Explain how to complete the words. Remind pupils that the word Wendy is completed Individual with the capital letter W. Check comprehension. work Step 5: Give pupils time to complete the words independently, saying Look at the pictures and Individual complete the words, please! Go around and offer work help, if necessary. Extension: - Invite some pupils to point to the letter W/w and Individual say its sound. Then let them point to the pictures work and say the complete words. Individual - For weaker pupils, have them do Activity 3, work Unit 16 in their workbooks. - For better pupils, have them do Activity 4, Unit 16 in their workbooks. Homelink 5 minutes Option 1: Have pupils listen to the recording, then Whole class say the chant again. Option 2: Ask pupils to look at the pictures in Whole class 4. Listen and tick. and say about them, e.g. six windows, ten lemons, ... At home Lesson 3 – Period 3 Date: _______________ I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - use “How many _____ can you see?” – “I can see _____.” to ask and answer questions about the numbers of things. - sing a song focusing on the numbers from six to ten and the structure “She can see _____.” II. INPUT Language: -“How many _____ can you see?” – “I can see _____.” Resources/Material: - Student’s book p. 70 - Teacher’s guide pp. 172-173 - Workbook p. 51 - Computer, projector III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat. – Let’s talk. – Let’s sing. – Homelink 223 listen to the question and repeat. Let another Group work group listen to the answer and repeat. Check pronunciation. Step 4: Invite a few pupils to repeat the sentences in front of the class. Go around and praise them, if they Individual performed well, saying Well done! Correct work pronunciation to make sure pupils can repeat correctly the sentences. 7. Let’s talk. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the bubbles to understand Whole class how the structure How many ______ can you see? – I can see ______. is used. Explain the meaning of the sentence, if necessary. Step 2: Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the Whole class number of the things. Then let them point to the pictures and say. Check comprehension. Step 3: Point to Picture a and model the task, using the question in the bubble and ask “How many Group/ windows can you see?” Have pupils point to the Individual six windows and answer. E.g. I can see six work windows. Then ask pupils to say the sentences individually and in chorus. Say Point to the picture, ask and answer, please! Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 4: Follow the same procedure with Pictures b, c, d, e Whole class by getting pupils to point to the pictures, ask and answer questions about the number of things. Go around and offer help, if necessary. Step 5: Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to practise Pair work the structure again. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task, if necessary. Extension: 1. Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and Pair work act out the exchanges in front of the class. 225
