I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
 - pronounce the sound of the letter N/n in isolation. 
 - say the words Nick, nuts, noodles, bananas correctly.
II. INPUT Language: 
 - Sound /n/
 - Vocabulary: nuts, noodles, bananas
 Resources/Material: 
 - Student’s book p.57 
 - Flashcards for Unit 13 
 - Poster for Unit 13
 - Teacher’s guide pp. 139-141
 - Computer, projector
III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat – Point and say – Game – 
 Homelink
 170 necessary. Pair or group 
 Step 5: Have them listen, point to the letter N/n, the work
 pictures and say the sound of the letter and the 
 words in pairs or groups until they feel confident. 
 Give further support to those pupils who find it 
 difficult to do the task, if necessary. Whole class
 Step 6: Call a few pupils to say the letter N/n and the 
 words Nick, noodles, nuts and bananas in front of 
 the class, saying Good job! when they performed 
 well.
2. Point and say. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture again and describe Whole class
 it, saying Look at the picture and describe it,
 please! Draw their attention to the letter N/n, 
 Nick and the food, if necessary.
 Step 2: Get them to point to the letter N/n and say it, Individual 
 saying Point to the letter N/n and say it, please! work
 Let them point to Nick and say Nick, saying Point 
 to Nick and say, please! Remind them of the 
 sound of the letter N in the word Nick. Then ask 
 one pupil to point to Nick and to say the word 
 Nick in front of the class. Go around and offer 
 help, if necessary.
 Step 3: Do the same procedure with the other things. Go Individual 
 around and correct pronunciation, if necessary. work
 Give further support to those pupils who find it 
 difficult to do the task.
 Step 4: Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to look at Pair or group 
 the picture, point to the letter N/n, the boy and work
 the food and say the sound of the letter N/n and 
 the words Nick, noodles, nuts and bananas. 
 Step 5: Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say Whole class
 the sound of the letter and the words in front of 
 of the class.

 - say the sound of the letter N/n and the words Nick, nuts, 
 noodles, and the sentences Nam’s having nuts. Nick’s 
 having noodles in a chant.
 - recognize the words in different situations when 
 listening.
 - trace the letter N/n and complete the words ___ick, 
 ba___anas, ___oodles, ___uts.
II. INPUT Language: 
 - Sound /n/
 - Vocabulary: bananas, nuts, noodles
 - Sentence pattern: Nam’s/Nick’s having ___. 
 Resources/Material:

 - Teacher’s guide pp. 142-144

 174 Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the other verse. Individual 
 Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands. work
 Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Step 5: Play the recording all the way through. Ask pupils Pairs or 
 to listen and repeat the chant in pairs or groups, groups work
 saying Listen to the recording and chant, please! 
 Go around and offer help, if necessary.
 Step 6: Select some pupils to the front of the class to Whole class 
 chant and clap their hands. The rest of the class 
 may sing along the chant and clap their hands. If 
 they sang the chant well, praise them, saying Well 
 done! 
 Extension: With better classes, encourage pupils change 
 some lines of the chant and sing the chant in front 
 of the class. E.g. 
 N, n, nuts. Nam’s having nuts.
 N, n, noodles. Nam’s having noodles.
 N, n, banans. Nam’s having bananas.
 N, n, nuts. Nick’s having nuts.
 N, n, noodles. Nick’s having noodles.
 N, n, bananas. Nick’s having bananas.
4. Listen and tick. 7 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the pictures, saying Look at Whole class 
 the pictures, please! and say what they can see. 
 Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the 
 letters a and b. Check comprehension.
 Invite some pupils to point to the pictures in 
 Question 1 and say the words in front of the class, 
 saying Point to the pictures and say the words, 
 please! E.g. 1a: noodles, 1b: nuts. Then have them 
 point to the pictures in Question 1 and say the 
 sentences in front of the class, saying Point to the 
 pictures and say the sentences, please! E.g. 1a: 
 I can see noodles. 1b: I can see nuts.
 176 Step 6: say its sound. Then let them point to the pictures Whole class
 and say the complete words (Nick, bananas, 
 noodles, nuts).
Homelink 3 minutes
 Option 1: Pupils learn by heart the chant (P58). Whole class
 Option 2: Pupils trace the letter U/u and complete the 
 words Pages 37, 38 (Workbook).
 Option 3: Pupils point to the pictures in Listen and tick 
 (p.49) and express commands, e.g 1a: E.g. 1a: I 
 like noodles. 1b: I like nuts. 2a: He’s having 
 bananas, 2b: He’s having nuts.

Warm-up 7 minutes
 - Option 1: Have a few pupil sing the chant, Whole class
 Page 58, in front of the class. 
 - Option 2: Invite one group of pupils to play 
 Kim’s game with the target vocabulary items 
 they have learnt. 
 - Option 3: Select point to the pictures in Listen 
 and tick (p.58) and say sentences, e.g 1a: E.g. 
 1a: I like noodles. 1b: I like nuts. 2a: He’s 
 having bananas, 2b: He’s having nuts. in front 
 of the class.
 - Get pupils to open their books and look at 
 Lesson 3 p.59 (saying Open the books and look 
 at Lesson 3, please!).
6. Listen and repeat. 5 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look at the Whole class
 picture, please! Point to the boy, saying What is he 
 doing? He’s having nuts. Point to the girl, saying 
 What is the girl doing? She’s having noodles. Point 
 to the sentences, saying He’s having nuts. She’s 
 having noodles. Play the recording for pupils
 to listen.
 Step 2: Get pupils to look at the sentence He’s having Individual 
 nuts, play the recording several times for them to work
 listen and repeat. Say Now Listen and repeat, 
 please! Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Step 3: Follow the same procedure with the sentence: 
 She’s having noodles.”
 Step 4: Play the recording again and let pupils listen and Pair or group 
 say the sentences in front of the class. work

 Follow the same procedure with the second verse Individual 
 work
 Step 3: of the song.
 Individual 
 Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their 
 work
 attention to the pronunciation, the stress, and the 
 melody of the song, saying Now listen to the

 Let pupils practise singing the whole song. If there 
 is time, ask some pupils to sing the song 
 individually, then in pairs or groups. Praise them Pair or group

 Step 5: when they performed well.
 Have the class sing the whole song and clap hands 
 to reinforce the tune, the rhythm and the melody.

 Option 1: Pupils sing by heart the song on p.59. Whole class
 Option 2: Pupils change some lines of the lyrics and practice 
 Option 3: singing the song at home.
 Pupils do the project on Page 42 in Workbook.
